Fibromyalgia refers to a disorder in the body that can lead to muscle pain and a feeling of fatigue. People suffering from this disorder will experience pain as well as tenderness all through their body.

Symptoms

People with fibromyalgia have various symptoms. These include difficulty in sleeping besides stiffness in the body after waking up in the morning. Other symptoms include headaches and pain during the menstrual periods. There can also be some form of numbness or a tingling feeling in hands and feet. Other problems will be linked with thoughts and memory.

There can be more than one chronic pain conditions coexisting. These conditions include chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel disease, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, endometriosis, besides interstitial cystitis, and vulvodynia. These disorders may or may not be due to a common reason.

Causes Of Fibromyalgia

The cause behind fibromyalgia is still unknown. A number of factors may be contributing to this factor. These include stress or trauma like an accident. It can also be due to repetitive injuries or some kind of illness. Sometimes Fibromyalgia occurs just on its own. There might be a gene responsible for causing this condition.

Women are more prone to fibromyalgia. But men and children can also suffer from this disorder. Typically people get diagnosed with this condition during middle age.

People suffering from certain other diseases are more likely to have fibromyalgia. These would include Rheumatoid arthritis or lupus (Systemic lupus erythematosus). Other diseases include Ankylosing spondylitis or spinal arthritis. Women having a family member with fibromyalgia are more likely to suffer from this condition.
